Flagstaff followed a few months later, then South Tucson, Sierra Vista, Chandler, Apache Junction, Tempe, and Pinal County. Most of these changes were the result of residents going to council meetings and speaking up again and again until leaders listened (plus, more recently, police departments have been [caught abusing](https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/arizona-police-cancel-flock-contracts-over-data-misuse-while-axon-expands-surveillance-technology?ref=azadvocacyhub.org) the system). Queen Creek's town council is up next and will discuss whether to cancel their contract on September 2, details below. People sitting in a room with local leaders is not sexy but that is how change happens. In fact, the reason we have a weekend, 40 hour works weeks, child labor laws, etc, is because people came together and demanded them. With Labor Day coming up next weekend, organizers have packed the calendar so if you want to exercise your people-power, we've got you covered. ## If you only do one thing this week [**General Election Kickoff Call**](https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/1009287/?ref=azadvocacyhub.org) · September 2 · Virtual Indivisible launches its general election program at 5:00 PM Arizona time, walking through the target races and the specific volunteer roles that open up over the next nine weeks. Arizona is flagged as one of the states most at risk for election disruption this cycle, so we need an engaged voter population. ## Five minutes or less - **Sign the petition on veterans' care and the Major Richard Star Act.** Roughly 54,000 combat-injured veterans are still denied full retirement and disability pay under what advocates call the wounded veteran tax, and bills moving in Congress would cut disability benefits further. Roles include monitoring county Boards of Supervisors meetings, watching drop boxes and polling locations, reporting voter suppression, and rapid response. ### **Delete your DoorDash account over its push against D.C. home rule.** DoorDash is publicly backing H.R. 9720, which would require Congress to sign off on any tax or fee the elected D.C. Council passes. The company is pushing it to avoid a 20-cent delivery fee that funds food access programs for low-income families.
